Congratulations to Elizabeth Coker, Year 13, whose outstanding work on the 1918 Influenza Pandemic has earned her four prestigious awards in the world of Science and mathematics.
Under the supervision of Dr Chris Skelly and Dr Ariana Zeka at the Institute for the Environment at Brunel University, Elizabeth specialised in using her maths skills in a public health/biological setting.
Elizabeth participated in the Exscitec Science Fair at Imperial College where she was presented with an Exscitec Platinum award, for work done at degree level one standard and is equivalent to 12 open credits with the Open University. She was also awarded prizes for the best use of mathematics in a project and the best presentation of a project, and the Mu Alpha Theta award run by the University of Oklahoma for the challenging and creative use of mathematics to solve a problem.
