test
JYT’s original plans to perform Grease have been unavoidably shelved due to performing rights issues preventing us and all other youth theatres from putting on this musical. Whilst this is disappointing, it is not going to hold us back and JYT will return this summer with a completely contrasting project.
‘A PLAY IN A WEEK' - AUGUST 2010 -
JYT's Directors Joanna Billington and Simone Waller return to JASSPA for an intensive week long course to produce an innovative performance piece. This course will include drama, movement, original writing and hands on technical work in our purpose built theatre. Co-deviser and technical director Will Feasey will be joining our directorial team, thereby offering a new creative dimension to this project.
AUDITIONS
– Entry to JYT is by audition with places being awarded on merit. There will be up to 45 places for 12 – 16 year olds. To book an audition, please call Jasspa on 020 8314 6444. There is no charge for this audition and past JYT members will audition alongside new students. No previous experience is required to try out for this project but a flair for performing is essential. Auditions include improvisation, script work and dance.
Audition date: Saturday 8th May, 3pm - 6pm
DATES
– It is essential that all company members are available for the entire schedule, except for 15/16 year olds on GCSE results morning.
Monday 23rd August – Saturday 28th August, 10am – 6pm
Sunday 29th August, 12 midday – 10pm
'A PLAY IN A WEEK' FEES
- £200 – inclusive of all tuition fees and tickets for performance
SCHOLARSHIPS
– at the discretion of JASSPA scholarships will be offered to two pupils who, in the opinion of the auditioning team show outstanding potential, talent and focus during auditions. These scholarships will cover the entire fees for the summer 2010 course. In the event of more than two deserving applicants, the scholarships may be split into four half awards, each worth exactly half fees.
JYT’s HISTORY
Our own Youth Theatre – JYT- was started in September 2003. JYT is an extension of regular JASSPA classes and is an annually auditioned company of talented performers. Each project has a specific age range and previous projects have included pupils aged 8-18. We have been ‘resting’ for two years whilst building projects have been underway at JAGS. This includes a recent refurbishment of our purpose built theatre, The Prissian Theatre, used for all JYT performances.
Since JYT’s formation musical productions have included The Wizard of Oz (2003), Annie (2005), Bodywork (2006) and Bugsy Malone (2007). JYT students have come from all over South London as well as from JASSPA Dance and Drama classes.
Many JYT members have successfully auditioned at national level for NYMT, NYT and have subsequently gone on to work in the profession.
