Theory - Pupils cover a graded Associated Board syllabus and take an external exam in    June.  Theory is valuable for musicians of grade 3+ instrumental standard as it broadens musical awareness and supports instrumental work.  For children destined to take practical exams beyond Grade 5 these course provide a thorough and steady progression through academic work in a relaxed group environment.  Jasspa currently runs courses at the following levels: Grades 1,3 and 5. Pupils should apply for a class 1-2 grades lower than their current practical level.  A small amount of homework is given.

Junior Choir -  A great option for under 12s!  Develop a good musical ear, have fun with your voice and tackle a technically and musically challenging repertoire.  This class covers a variety of musical styles from classical repertoire to show numbers. Junior Choir performs twice during the year and boys and girls are welcome.

Big Band. For technically competent wind, brass and percussion instrumentalists of Grade 2-8 standard.  Pianists of a good Grade 5+ standard may also apply.  Repertoire is fun and includes Jazz and Blues standards and improvisation.  No previous ensemble experience is required, although an interest in Big Band-style music is an advantage.  Specialist tutors lead sectional rehearsals, whilst full band rehearsals are directed by Jim Howard.  Big Band performs twice each year.

JASSPA offers free aural lessons for pupils taking music exams. These classes give extra help for the sometimes daunting aural sections of exams.  Pupils sign up on a termly basis.  Timetables are available at the start of term.
