Drama at JASSPA combines skills-based classes with preparation for performance. A varied programme is designed to challenge, inspire and develop all round performing skills.  The environment is stimulating and encouraging and promotes pupil confidence and creativity. Drama Workshop style classes encourage focus, discipline and team work through:

Improvisation —fostering spontaneity, self-confidence and group awareness.
Theatre styles —eg. Physical Theatre, Mask work, Melo drama.
Performance techniques —vocal work, movement skills and characterisation.
Creating a piece for presentation. Script writing and interpretation.

All classes perform once a year in our annual Dance and Drama Shows. Preparation for  this begins approximately 10 weeks before the performance date. Venues for 2008-9 are The Prissian Theatre, JAGS and The Hall, JAPS.

Drama is JASSPA’s most heavily subscribed option. Pupils are grouped according to age (up to a two year age band for Juniors and a three year age band for Seniors). Pupil assessment continues throughout the year and as a result pupils may be swapped from one class to another. This always involves discussion between teacher, pupil and parent.

For Drama classes pupils should wear comfortable clothes - no short skirts, please.  The Dance uniform can of course be worn to Drama classes. No previous experience is required to join JASSPA’s Drama classes.

Which Drama Class Should I Apply For?

Junior 40 minutes classes are for pupils aged 6-8 on Sept 1st 2008
Year 2 at infant school and Years 3-4 at junior school

Junior 50 minute classes are for pupils aged 9-10 on Sept 1st 2008
Years 5-6 at junior school

Senior 60 minute classes are for pupils aged 11-17 on Sept 1st 2008
Years 7-13 at secondary school

Advanced class for all pupils aged 15-18 or by invitation
