History

Children are encouraged to develop a growing sense of chronology.  Using a range of resources children find out about how people lived and events in the past.  The learning of History is enriched by trips and History theme days such as Victorian day.

Many school trips take place to stimulate further interest in History, such as:

The Ragged School Museum
Hampton Court
The Imperial War Museum
Crofton Roman Villa
Lullingstone Villa
British Museum - Anglo Saxon and Egyptian exhibits
Tintagel Castle

Other special events have included a Roman Day Tea Party and an Aztec Day. Research is a key word in History. We make full use of our wonderful library. Some history lessons are held there and the children regularly take out books and use CD ROMs. In Year 6 the children produce their own projects. As well as using our own library resources, many write to relevant museums and companies for information and organise trips with their parents to aid their research. In each year we hold our Humanities Week in which children focus on certain aspects of History and Geography. Activities include:

  • A History Competition
  • Researching famous historical figures' lives
  • 'Twenty Questions' using this research
  • An assembly on 'World History'
