JAPS offers an exciting 'Immersion French' programme: in the Pre-Prep, children are taught in small groups where the French teacher speaks only French to them. They also have weekly Music and PE lessons taught in French. Through this they pick up French naturally and easily, barely realising they are learning it. They think of French as something normal rather than 'foreign' or difficult, and their accents are remarkably good. This excellent start is built on by a specialist French teacher in the Middle School, where girls are taught in small groups, with a great emphasis on oral work, such as Drama in French.  Enjoyment and confidence are the 2 building blocks, but gradually more importance is given to meeting the written element, reading and writing and using dictionaries, so the girls are utterly ready to move on to secondary level at end of Year 6.
