English is taught by the Class Teacher, except in Year 6, where both classes are taught by the Head of English.

Children are taught to develop their skills in the writing of poetry, prose and drama, and all aspects of spoken English. In the PrePrep the development of speaking and listening skills is a high priority.

Shared reading is a wonderful way to help develop skills in comprehension, expanding vocabulary and to explore different writing styles.

Children at JAPS are always encouraged to read a great deal. There is a highly enjoyable Book Week every Autumn in both the Pre-Prep and Middle Schools.
