Art

Art is taught by the class teachers throughout the Pre-prep and the walls throughout the school are a constantly changing gallery of the children’s art works.  This makes it a very colourful and stimulating environment to work in.  Art is taught both as a discrete subject in order to explore a process thoroughly, and it is also integrated into topic work. The children are encouraged to be creative and imaginative in their art projects and to be independent in their use of materials and equipment. National Curriculum and The Early Years Foundation stage objectives are followed.

In the Prep School the girls are taught in the Art room by a specialist teacher in groups of twelve. They work through a varied programme of projects to gain experience of a wide range of techniques and media and which build progressively on skills and knowledge. Creativity, self-expression, imagination, independence and confidence are encouraged. All the girls make regular use of a sketchbook to record, develop and evaluate their work and to appreciate and comment on the work of artists, crafts people and designers. We are very proud of the girls’ achievements in Art, their work is displayed around the school and they continue to have success in applying for Art Scholarships and in local and national art competitions.
