The weekend in Madrid
Not just a dream but reality for lucky Year 12 and 13 Spanish students, with all their Spanish teachers. Studying at university in Spain just might be a little step closer now, following the talks the girls had at Universidad de Alcala de Henares, the country’s second oldest university. Their eyes lit up at the prospect of being part of Erasmus, the European exchange programme. Tutors there were impressed by the articulacy of the questions from the JAGS group.
Saturday brought an opportunity to visit the birthplace of Cervantes, and to stand and gaze at paintings, first by Velasquez and Goya in the Prado Museum, and then by contemporary artists, in Museum Reina Sofia, the most important piece there being Picasso’s Guernica. Quiet time on Sunday and a stroll through Retiro Park. What a great way to be immersed in Spanish culture! What’s more, they enjoyed lovely sunshine all weekend!
