VISIT TO BRINDISA

On Thursday 17th February the Y12 Spanish group, accompanied by Srta Sánchez and Sra Alonso, visited the Brindisa Warehouse.  Brindisa is a British company that imports fine Spanish food.  We were fortunate to be shown around by Mr Brown, the father of one of our Y12 students, and the manager of the company.

After the introductory health and safety talk, we visited the different store areas and fridges where the food is kept.  However, the most special part of the visit was to learn that every item of food has a story behind it: how it was found, why it was chosen, who produces it.

We loved the story of the octogenarian who produces the most delicious salted almonds:  he has devised a machine that shells and toasts the almonds, all in his garage.  However, as the almonds have to travel in many metres of pipes within the garage, he was concerned with how this would affect his almonds’ food mileage!

The visit was ended with a taste of different cheeses and, naturally, some ham.

Goodie bags were received with enthusiasm!

Now we are all looking forward to the trip to Madrid, especially the tapas tour!
