Trips
Tango Por Dos - February 2008
The Spanish Sixth Formers and their teachers enjoyed, once again, another delightful outing. This time it was to learn more about the most well-known Argentinean dance: Tango. It was sheer delight from start to finish. When tango is as good as this, who would not like to become a bailarina profesional de tango! Students and teachers enjoyed a great evening out and there is no doubt we all learnt lots about Latino culture.
"La casa de Bernarda Alba" at Theatro Tecnics
Spanish AS and A2 students went to the Theatro Tecnics to see a Spanish production of the F.Garcia Lorca's play "Casa de Bernarda Alba." The students enjoyed the performance and participated in the question and answer session given by the members of the La Careta company. They also enjoyed a hands-on session on House of Bernada Alba. They were asked to act and think about the characters as "personajes de carne y hueso." It was fun and very educational!

All About My Mother - Old Vic
Spanish AS and A2 students went to see the performance of All About My Mother at the Old Vic in September. It was a great opportunity to see a theatre adaptation of the world acclaimed film by Pedro Almodóvar. Previously all students watched the film and discussed Todo sobre mi madre and other Almodóvar films in their Spanish lessons. Both students and teachers enjoyed a great night out. After this introduction to Almodóvar, we hope our students have been inspired to follow the work of the most celebrated Spanish film director of our times.

Barcelona Study Trip
The Spanish Department organizes a study trip to Barcelona in the October half term holiday for students in Year 10 and Year 11. The trip is open to all girls taking GCSE Spanish and has proven to be highly successful and very popular, with 24 girls travelling with Miss Sánchez, Miss Martin and Mr Hicklenton on the 2007 trip.
There is an action-packed programme which in the past two years has included Spanish cookery workshops, salsa dancing lessons, visits to the Old Town in Barcelona, the Park Güell and the Sagrada Familia cathedral, three mornings of lessons in a language school, a trip to the Barceloneta beach and the Olympic Port, shopping around Plaza Cataluña, an exchange visit to a Spanish secondary school in the town of Viladecans, a tapas evening and, of course, a day in the famous theme park, Port Aventura!
Come and join us next year.
