Flamenco

Flamenco is the most well-known Spanish musical genre and dance. Music with strong rhythmic undertones is accompanied by powerful intricate hand and footwork. Artists such as Paco de Lucia, Eva Yerbabuena, Joaquin Cortes and Sara Baras among others have made this typical Spanish genre a world wide passion!

The seeds of flamenco are now planted in JAGS. The Spanish Department is delighted to offer to all JAGS students a Flamenco dance class as an extra-curricular activity.  Lessons are held in the Dance Studio on Wednesdays from 4.00 to 5.00pm. Angela Alonso from “Ilusión Flamenca” is conducting the weekly lessons with great success and enthusiasm.

Join “Las Flamencas de JAGS” and try to find your “duende”.

“VIVA 2008” MULTICULTURAL EVENING AT JAGS

JAGS Flamenco dancers performed on this year Multicultural Evening “Viva”. The audience was delighted with the three amazing choreographies performed on the event: a fan dance, a pasodoble and a rumba. Their outfit was real español and for a moment, JAGS was transformed into a prelude of the Seville fair: la Feria de Sevilla.

We want to thank the girls for this great performance and we hope to see them on stage again very soon!  ¡Gracias y olé!

LONDON FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MARCH 2008

Our fabulous Flamenco dancers went to see the opening performance of this year London Flamenco Festival at the Sadler’s Wells last March.

Compañía María Pagés’s show “Sevilla” was a Flamenco gateway to the attraction and mystery of one of the most beautiful Spanish cities. The choreographies were amazing, the stage setting overwhelming and the dresses out of this world.

Our JAGS Flamenco dancers got plenty of inspiration for their future performances!!!
