Year 10 had a lovely morning learning about personal and communal repentance, as an introduction to their study of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

As well plenary and group sessions, focusing on these themes and on Caravaggio’s painting “The Binding of Isaac”, they explored the galleries, viewing a very old Holy Ark, an open Sefer Torah and its adornments, a table laid for Shabbat and a fascinating history of the Jews in England. Dressing up as a traditional Jewish bridal couple was a highlight.

An added bonus was the temporary exhibition “Entertaining the Nation”, which explored the Jewish contribution to the entertainment industry from the days of Yiddish Theatre to Lionel Bart’s “Oliver” to Jack Rosenthal’s “The Evacuees and Bar Mitzvah Boys”. Girls had great fun dressing up as Ali G and Amy Winehouse, amongst others!  Please click here for more photos.
