0-300m in 40 seconds

What can you do in 40.4 seconds? If you are Katie Snowden, you can run 300 metres in your personal best time and claim a Silver medal in the England Indoor Athletics Championships. Not content with that triumph, Katie also claimed a bronze medal for the 800 metres. Stunning results, especially when you consider her age: Katie is 14 but, by a quirk of birth date, was running in the U17 age group.

If Katie didn’t know anyone in her group before the event, she was probably on good terms after the 20 heats it took her to reach the final; and she sounded quietly impressed by the knowledge that she beaten only by the younger sister of Christine Ohuruogu, Olympics champion!

Katie has her feet on the ground though, training only two or three times a week, and enjoying tennis, swimming and just chilling, she says. She is gearing up to the English Schools and the Inter-County cross country events in March, quite a different technique.

Many congratulations to Katie and special mention too of Katie’s parents for stoically driving up and down to Birmingham each day for the two day event over half-term. It was worth it! Good luck to Katie and to all our cross country runners representing JAGS in the English Schools event in March: Grace de Rome, Julia Wedmore and Katie.
