Physical Education
Physical Education and sport play an important part in school life with over 74% of girls regularly participating in extra-curricular activities. The school achieves county, area and national recognition in a wide range of sports including athletics, cross country, fencing, hockey, netball, swimming, tennis and football. However, the value of non-competitive sport is also much appreciated and there are a variety of clubs which promote this; dance, fitness, karate and badminton to name but a few.
Our excellent facilities include a sports hall, a new 25 metre swimming pool with a viewing gallery for 200 spectators, 2 squash courts, 8 tennis courts, 4 netball courts, a computerised fitness gym, a dance studio, a new, artificial, floodlit, all weather hockey pitch and extensive playing fields. These provide a positive and well resourced environment for all round excellence in sport. It is a great credit to the pupils and staff of the PE department that the Sports Council awarded the school the prestigious Sportsmark Gold award in Spring 2003 and again in March 2006.
PE is a popular GCSE subject and the AS and A2 PE are offered in the Sixth Form. Many in the Sixth Form take the opportunity to follow accredited courses in their PE lessons. We currently have two groups taking the National Pool Lifeguard course and two groups taking the Community Sports Leader Award.
We have strong links with the local community in Southwark and with our neighbouring primary and secondary schools. The JAGS Sports Club ensures that our facilities are well used outside of school hours by families and local residents.
