Philosophy is one of the options for for A level study in the Sixth Form. For AS, pupils study:

Unit 1 The Theory of Knowledge 

  • Unit 2 Moral Philosophy
  • Unit 3 · Descartes Meditations A2 comprises
  • Unit 4 The Philosophy of Mind · Unit 5 Aristotle Nicomachean Ethics
  • Unit 6 A Synoptic Study: an extended essay selected from a bank of titles.

The wider activities of the Department include:

  • occasional Philosophy Cafe meetings (discussion groups, sometimes with visiting speakers; films with a philosophical theme) and Study Days;
  • guidance and support to all Sixth form pupils applying for Philosophy courses at university;
  • specialist assistance to other departments on philosophical topics.
