There are over 400 instrumental lessons taught at JAGS every week by a staff of over 30 professional musicians. There are usually 30 lessons per year of 30 minutes duration. Lessons are rotated in Years 7-9 so that the same lesson is not missed each week and in Years 10-13 girls have lessons in free periods and during lunch and after school.

Girls are not expected or encouraged to take grade examinations but some do find them helpful as they provide a focus and something to work towards.
