Learning Japanese

In 2006 the Japanese section of the library was officially opened much to the delight of all the students, including those who didn’t study the language!

The Japanese section is now are of the most popular sections of the library as it has such a diverse collection of reading material, including cooking books, origami books and of course a few dictionaries! There are also studies on the history and culture of Japanese society and language which help to supplement A-level students’ studies. Nonetheless the manga is undoubtedly the collection that is most loved by JAGS students, the mixture of both Japanese and English language cartoons ensuring that there is something for everyone to get stuck into.

The newest addition to the Japanese collection is the quickly growing Japanese film section, including now famous animations such as Totoro. The interest in this section took off shortly after the famous director Makoto Shinkai paid a visit to JAGS, his films are now available to borrow from the library.

As one of the head girls and a Japanese A-level student, I would highly recommend paying a visit to the Japanese section of the library to get a taste for their amazing culture.
