Our visit to the Docklands could not have been timed better! We went into London on Monday 29th November, the day before heavy snow bought London to a standstill! Luckily the morning was spent inside, firstly at One Canada Square, where we were very fortunate to hear a talk by Dale Pile, Canary Wharf Group’s Community Liaison Officer, on the 30th floor. We enjoyed the spectacular views across the Docklands! We then made a quick dash across to the London Docklands Museum where the girls explored excellent displays about the transformation of the Docks over the last 100 years. It was then time to wrap up very warm and brace the freezing temperatures, which had plummeted by early afternoon. Our focus was the contrasting environmental quality around the Isle of Dogs. Back in the classroom, in the week following the trip, the girls produced annotated overlay maps with a range of charts to show the different environmental scores they gave on the trip. These ICT and data presentation skills will be invaluable when the girls complete their controlled assessment in Year 11.
