Dance

Since January 2005, JAGS has been offering staff and girls at JAGS the opportunity of participating in ‘Russian Workout’ sessions.

On Mondays and Tuesdays Evgeny Goremykin, former Principal Dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, and ballerina Ista Stepanov come to JAGS to conduct workout sessions focussing on posture, co-ordination, toning core muscles and relieving stress.

Russian Workout is based on ballet education but requires no knowledge of ballet. It is a whole body programme designed to exercise and strengthen specific muscles. Exercises are primarily done on the floor, engaging the core muscles but relaxing the lower back.

The Russian workout is held in the Dance Studio from 4pm to 5pm on Mondays and 1.10pm to 1.50pm on Wednesdays. Both sessions are open to girls and staff. The cost of the workout is £4 per session (Mondays) and £3 per session (Wednesdays).

The dancers leading the workout are based at Manor Studios, 42 Clapham Manor Street, Clapham SW4. Last September they started a charity called Kids Love Lambeth to provide dance and fitness sessions free of charge for underprivileged children and young offenders in the borough of Lambeth. The charity is funded by the commercial venture ‘Manor Studio’ which provides ballet and workout routines for adults and children in Clapham Manor Street and in private schools (JAGS and Eaton House).
