Creative Arts
Our commitment to creative arts teaching at JAGS stems from the shared belief that all pupils should experience a range of inspiring arts activities, in Art, Music, Design and Technology and Drama, within and beyond the curriculum.
The arts add quality and challenge to our lives, making us question and reflect on our thoughts, feelings and values, and helping us to respect the views of others. All of us should explore imaginatively and understand different forms of expression, appreciate our diverse cultural heritage, gain a sense of personal identity and encounter excellence.
Creative skills and the ability to innovate are increasingly important in responding to a fast-changing world. Professional arts and business organisations can help us to improve our standards by raising expectations and demonstrating excellence, and through partnership or sponsorship.
Through our teaching, we want to inspire and to equip every girl to achieve outstanding artistic success.

Congratulations to Lucy Boynton for her role as the young Miss Potter
‘What I''m looking for is a face people are going to fall in love with in 60 seconds'' says Priscilla John, casting director on the new feature film, ‘Miss Potter''.
Her quest ended at JAGS. Lucy Boynton''s mother, Adriaane Pielou, explained to the Mail on Sunday (YOU 26 November 2006):
"When Lucy started at JAGS last September she was pleased to discover it had a great drama department. One day she came home, eyes shining, brandishing a letter from Priscilla John Casting. They''d seen Lucy in a drama lesson, and wondered if she''d like to audition for the role of Beatrix Potter as a child in the film ‘Miss Potter'', starring Renee Zelwegger? Would she! At the end of a workshop Lucy was one of about 20 shortlisted for a second audition a week later. That reduced the shortlist to 10. Then she had to learn a page of script. Her reading made the director, Chris Noonan, cry. Then came the call. ‘Everyone loves her! She''s got the part!'' Priscilla said. Now, after filming in the Lake District, Lucy says ‘I can''t wait to do another film, but ‘Miss Potter'' will always be the best experience of my life. It''s not about fame, though; it''s about work, really, really hard work. My corset was agony,'' she says calmly."
It happened to Lucy. It could happen to you!
