Year 12 Classics visit to the Iris Festival of Greek Drama

Year 12 Latin and Classical Civilisation groups went to the Iris Festival on June 13 at The Scoop, City Hall to watch Clouds and Birds written by the Athenian comic author Aristophanes in the 5th century BC, performed by local schoolchildren; Aristophanes mocks thinkers such as Socrates in Clouds; Maggie and Bella discovered it’s a bit of warning against trying to create ideal systems to the exclusion of others. Birds shows the Athenians Peisthetaerus and Euelpides seeking a new city, Cloudcuckooland. (Now they know where the expression comes from).

The festival was opened by Boris Johnson. Year 12 managed to get his autograph, as displayed here.
