Art
The Art Department aims to provide a broad visual and structured learning experience. Staff encourage and expect pupils to engage with the activity in a committed and serious way whilst gaining a clear insight and understanding of visual issues.
All work in the Department starts with observation. The Department believes that drawing is the foundation of all Art: to observe, invent, express, explore and investigate. The importance of drawing and looking is taught to a very high standard. There is a great emphasis placed on visual aesthetics and providing a sound grounding in Fine Art. Please visit our online gallery to view examples of pupil's work.
Pupils’ work is continually shown all around the school and we invite artists to exhibit their work in the school’s superb exhibition space. We regularly exhibit the pupils’ work at external venues, this has included: ‘To See is to Understand’ at the Mall Galleries, SW1 and ‘ Dialogues ’ at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Since 2000, we have exhibited work annually at The Royal College of Art in aid of Young Art and often win prizes and commendations. The AS and A level work made for the summer 2005 examination was exhibited at the County Hall Gallery as part of the Edexcel Celebrates Exhibition where the best of the submissions were displayed. Work is used on the Edexcel web-site as exemplar material.
The Art Department is currently working towards an exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and has recently had a highly successful exhibition at the Pavilion café at Dulwich Park. Further examples of our artwork can be found on the kids101 web-site using the link http://www.kids101-art.co.uk/thumbnails.php?album=1252.
