Class Reps
JAGS welcomes parental involvement. The role of the JPA Class Rep at JAGS is primarily a social one, to help parents meet each other. Many of us may have been closely involved in our Junior or Prep Schools but find it more difficult to get to know other parents now that our daughters are older.
Parents can volunteer to be a Class Rep by passing their name to a member of the JPA Committee or the School Office. Ideally, there will be two or three Reps in each class who can liaise with each other. In addition to events organised by the School, Class Reps can (independently of the School) arrange a variety of events, such as: picnics in the park, picnics at School, coffee mornings, book groups, meals out for mothers only, or fathers only, parties at home for parents only or parties for parents and children. Social events for classes or year groups can be for parents only or for families, giving you the opportunity to meet your daughter’s friends. Food and drink may be supplied by the Reps and reasonable expenses [supported by invoices] will be reimbursed.
Many parents would like to contribute some time to the School and are willing to help with the regular uniform sales, Quiz Night, Founder’s Day, and the Disco or School outings, as they arise. They just need to be asked and this is where the Class Rep can assist.
The time put in by the Class Rep need not be great. They can coordinate with other parents to share tasks. Class Reps have a list of parents and contact numbers and can contact them by letter, (the School Office will copy and distribute), or by phone or email. Support is on hand from the JPA through its Treasurer, Patricia McHale, jpatreasurer@jags.org.uk who will provide advice on funding and the submission of invoices.
The rewards of being a Class Rep outweigh the efforts involved. The children benefit if their parents know each other, the School benefits from supportive parents and Class Reps are appreciated by everyone.
