Valentine’s Day was very pink at JAGS this February, with the whole senior school embracing the chance to wear touches of red and pink. A Valentine assembly explored older traditions of presenting flowers, confectionery and greetings cards and we heard about early Christian martyrs, romantic and courtly love.

We weren’t short of cupids, hearts, flowers and indulgent sugary things either, as the selection of photos shows. The whole school came together for the Extravaganza in the Holst Hall at lunch time, a Desenfans House fund-raiser for Kids Company, with whom we have a partnership. You could buy all things pink, from iced cakes to sweeties and jam donuts, and paint your nails flamingo pink, thanks to a donation from Superdrug. There was the potential to win pink things at the raffle too.

But the main attraction was the teachers’ ‘Blind Date’, over which we shall draw a delicately sequined veil, except to say that it was hilarious. Cilla never had a crooner to serenade her hopefuls; but we did - eat your heart out, Frank Sinatra! Thanks to the teachers – Miss Thomson, Miss Allgrove, Miss Johnson and Miss Rukazenkova, presenters Miss Evernden and Mrs Jones, the lucky date himself, Mr Kerr and Sinatra sound-alike, Mr Nicholls, with accompanist Mr Williams. You were all great sports, wasted in your day jobs! With the inspiration of D House, we raised a tear-jerking £1441.12 for Kids Company – and had a great start to half-term.  Please click here for more photos.
