Charity Work
The main activities of the four houses revolve around raising money for charity. At the beginning of every academic year each house proposes several charities and then votes for the one(s) they would like to support over the coming year. Each house tries to find out as much as possible about the charity they are supporting and often invites people from the charity into school to speak about their cause. This really motivates pupils to work hard in raising money in their charity week. Each form is allocated a week in which to organise an activity of their choosing for their house's charity. These range from talent shows and concerts to sponsored events, car washing, cake sales, pamper parlours, bazaars, in fact the ideas are endless. On top of this the school also supports three whole school charities: one each term. This year they are the Genes for Jeans Campaign; Dulwich Helpline and Kids Company. The school also raises funds for the British Legion by selling poppies Pupils. Staff also nominate these charities. Money donated to these charities is often raised through own clothes days at school including the house colours day in the summer term when each girl has to wear an item of clothing of their house's colour - easier said than done if your house happens to be Holst!
Last year the Houses raised a total of £8928.50 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Send a Cow, Cancer research.
This year the Houses are supporting the following charities: Children with Leukaemia, Wandsworth Women’s Aid, International China Concern, Harvest India and CWAC (Children with Aids Charity). So far this year a total of £3111.28 has been raised plus money raised for the British Legion in November.
