South Africa Tour News

Watch this space for news of our Tour. March 25th to April 8th.

26th March - Arrived safely, hotel is lovely, weather is fantastic !! After checking in we went up to sample the spectacular views from Table Mountain. Down to the waterfront for a late lunch and then back to the hotel for a couple of hours before heading out to dinner at Squires. The Y11 and Y12's headed back to their rooms for a little revision (or so they say!!) and the some of the Y9's went go-karting !! Early to bed ready for our first game tomorrow.

27th March - We made a fantastic start to the tour. The 1st X1 had a very convincing 8.0 victory over Durbanville High School and the Y9 netball teams won 25-1 and 13-6. The girls adapted very well to the heat and are already looking forward ato their next game.

28th March - Another early start but a great day out visiting the Penguins at Boulders Beach, Seal Island and the Bird Sanctuary. Plenty of pictures were taken at the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. The views were fantastic.

29th March - What an awesome day! The visit to the township Fisantekraal was both humbling and rewarding. We spent the morning visiting different parts of the community, in particular the creche, the retirement home and the ghetto area, as these are some of the projects that the money we raised has gone towards. We also presented sports equipment to the Trevor Manuel School. The whole experience was amazing! We played the Netball at the school and our players encountered some very strong opposition in front of a large township crowd. It was a great opportunity for our girls to witness the pure athleticism and arial style of play common to South African netball. The A team had a fantastic game and won 26-16, the B team lost 17-8. We then went off to Stellenberg High School for the Hockey match. The game was played on grass and after struggling to adapt to the surface for the first 10 minutes, the girls, despite the 32 degrees heat ran out 7-0 winners against a very physical Stellenberg team.

30th March - We had a very relaxing day today at Buffelsfontein Nature Reserve. We went on a 2 hour game drive and spotted buffalo, springbok and zebra, amongst others. After lunch we all enjoyed a very relaxing 2 hours around the pool before heading back to the hotel. 32 degrees plus today!!
