PSHCE

Growing up as a young adult in today’s world can be difficult. At JAGS, we aim to help the girls by tackling the moral, social and personal issues that they face, both now and in the future. Within a safe and managed environment, girls are encouraged to reflect upon and discuss their experiences, to consider the consequences of their actions for themselves and others, and to think about strategies for dealing with more difficult situations should they arise.

PSHCE permeates many subjects of the curriculum, but is also taught through discreet sessions, as detailed below:

Key Stage 3

PSHCE in Years 7, 8 and 9 is led by the Form Tutor during form time and covers general issues relating to the following:

  • Friendship
  • Peer pressure
  • Individual and corporate responsibility
  • Positive self-esteem.

Also included in the package are strategies for helping the girls to develop useful study skills and revision techniques.   Additional talks relating to Internet and Mobile Phone Safety, Bullying and Personal Safety are delivered by our Schools’ Police Officer.

Key Stage 4

PSHCE in Years 10 and 11 is a timetabled 35 minute lesson per week. The girls are taught on a carousel which covers the following:

  • Health Ed.
  • Current Affairs
  • Ethics
  • Social Psychology
  • Critical Thinking
  • Personal Safety

Specific issues are dealt with by our team of specialist visiting speakers, and deal with the following more pressing issues:

  • Alcohol and the Dangers of Binge Drinking
  • Eating Disorders
  • Drugs
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections and AIDS
