Facilities
JAGS enjoys the rare luxury for a town school of an extensive 22 acre site with playing fields, ponds, formal and wildlife gardens. Girls have space here: space to develop their interests, to practise sports, and simply to be with their friends outside the environs of the classroom. Within our campus we have a range of first class specialist teaching areas, including 13 science laboratories, and have embarked on an exciting programme to extend and rebuild other facilities so that we will have one of the best-equipped schools in London. The programme started in February 2000 with the building of our new swimming pool. This links with our Sports Centre to provide integrated sports facilities next to our netball and tennis courts. Our new all-weather pitch opened in summer 2005.
The old swimming pool – opened in 1939 – has now been converted into a new dining room, café and kitchens with a new drama studio and classroom block above.
We are also planning to build the James Allen’s Community Music Centre for JAGS, JAPS and wider community use. Soundproofed practice and rehearsal rooms, recording studios, teaching rooms and a recital venue will be used by both senior and junior pupils, and will offer a centre of excellence for our talented musicians and those from local schools and in the local community generally. Finally, the jewel in the crown is a concert hall with flexible stage and seating – intimate enough to seat an audience of 400, yet sufficiently large to gather the whole senior school community.
