About Us

James Allen’s Girls’ School is an academically selective, independent, day school for pupils aged 4-18. In the senior school we educate some 770 girls from Year 7 (11+) to the Sixth Form.  300 younger pupils are educated at JAPS (James Allen’s Preparatory School), from 4-7 in the Pre-Prep and from 7-11 in the Middle School. We are distinguished by the very broad social and cultural mix of our pupils, who come from a wide range of backgrounds.  We currently have 107 pupils on our own Bursaries, with 59 of them on free places and an average of 91% fee subsidy paid. All meet here on the common ground of shared intellectual promise, and all can appreciate each other’s skills, talents and diverse cultures.

We provide a broad and exciting education on a spacious 22-acre campus on the edge of Dulwich.  Our academic record is consistently high, and our pupils shine across a huge number of disciplines, showing excellence in many fields.  Sports, debating, the performing and creative arts, and Community Action are all particularly prized at JAGS.  Our ethos promotes consideration, care and courtesy for others.  Above all, we hope that girls leave JAGS eager and able to make a difference to society.
