JAGS and the Wider Community
"To have any facilities that JAGS might offer would be fantastic...any opportunity to use equipment, instruments and rooms [for] music therapy would be invaluable. It would be marvellous to be somewhere nearby...it would be really lovely to develop that relationship further" (A teacher at a local special school)
Music is at the heart of JAGS and its community outreach.

The current music facilities at JAGS are increasingly being used not only by the School but also by local, regional and national groups and organisations for auditions, rehearsals and performances.
The James Allen’s Saturday School for the Performing Arts (JASSPA), founded in 1993, offers opportunities for some 450 young people aged 3-18 from more than 80 schools across Southwark and neighbouring boroughs to make music.
The new Community Music Centre will provide rehearsal and performance spaces for many local musical groups and some regional and national ensembles. We already provide rehearsal space for the Dulwich Youth Orchestra and National Youth Recorder Orchestra and stage concerts for the Dulwich Festival and some professional touring artists and will expand this provision.

The JAGS Choral Society (JCS), founded in 1987, and the more recent JAGS Community Orchestra (JACO) bring together existing and former pupils and staff, friends and neighbours to perform for personal enjoyment, friend-making and charitable fundraising.
The music technology and recording studios will provide a valuable resource for young people from the surrounding area who wish to create their own music, but we also hope to attract those with longer life experience who may wish to reacquaint themselves with an instrument from their youth or learn something new from scratch.

The JACMC will enable us to offer performing spaces to local primary and special schools with whom we are already in partnership. The music therapy suite will be available during the day to local special schools and we hope to share other specialist facilities with our neighbouring primary schools.
We will offer our facilities to outreach projects from London-based Arts Organisations and to stage a variety of workshops for all ages and abilities in singing and playing instruments, classical, jazz, rock and pop.
