Try saying ‘Traklat’ backwards and see what you get...the enigmatic website name suddenly becomes clear. Of course! Talk art –exactly what the Year 13 who’ve been working on this joint project with Dulwich College want us to do. The point of their blog is to get people of their age into art, expressing opinions as well as creating it. The starting point is the art at Dulwich Picture Gallery, which is commissioning this development of the youth website. The group has spent time exploring the art works there, seeing the operational side – what happens on Mondays when the gallery is shut to the public. They’ve made, and are currently editing, podcasts on specific paintings, including one Elizabeth 1 lookalike. Anita and Emily are very absorbed with her gold ruff. Hannah has written a piece on the theme ‘Does it matter who painted it?’ Since DPG realised ‘Jacob’s Dream’ is not a Rembrandt, the painting has been moved from prime position for public gaze. Fair? She and Helena are having fun using a website that allows you to ‘paint’ in the style of Jackson Pollock. Wonderful! Zara has produced enough Hilarious Art Facts to blog for a year.
Ok, so it was a headache finding an original website name (avoiding the perils of underscoring or running words together incomprehensively), and it’s hard to make time to produce material, but every member of the website design group hopes their blog will resonate with a fresh, young perspective to art .
Without the initiative of Head of e-learning at DPG, Ingrid Beazley, and the technically savvy Brian from Dulwich College, none of this would be possible. Watch this space for details of the website launch.
