Community Music
‘Who could ask for anything more?’
On Friday May 15 the Year 8 ‘Gershwin Quartet’, a hybrid wind and string quartet, performed first at the Gala Youth Concert, a Dulwich Festival event, at Kingsdale School, and shortly after, in the interval of JAGS Musical Quiz. Sarah Waite (violin), Mair Dew (cello), Kristina Semenuk (flute) and Laura Akehurst (clarinet) felt very important as they were hurried through the streets of Dulwich in torrential rain. The girls took the two performances in their stride, playing their trademark Gershwin to great acclaim in Kingsdale. They were then rapturously received at JAGS after they’d played seven varied numbers lasting for the majority of the interval.
‘Nice work if you can get it
And you can get it -- if you try
Who could ask for anything more?’ (Gershwin)
JAGS Music Department is involved in community music making in many ways. There are two community performing groups: JAGS Choral Society which is an adult mixed voice choir which meets weekly and gives three concerts each year and JAGS Community Orchestra which rehearses for two evenings prior to each of its concerts in January, April and September.
Further information about our other community activities can be found in the news section.
