We hold three Open Meetings in the Autumn Term for prospective pupils and their parents. The meetings begin promptly with a talk by the Headmistress, followed by a question and answer session where current pupils will answer any queries from visitors. Families will then be taken on guided tours of the school by our Year 8 pupils. The weekday mornings will give you an opportunity to see JAGS on an ordinary school day. Our Admissions Procedures
Once you have visited JAGS and have decided we might suit your daughter, you need to register her with us. We accept registrations after her ninth birthday and before 30 November of the year before entry. The registration fee is £50 (£60 overseas). Email is quicker and more efficient as a way of contacting you about interview dates, for example, than relying on post; please make sure you give us up to date contact details when you register with us. Prospective pupils are interviewed during the Autumn Term by either the Head, the Deputy Head, the Head of Year 7, or another senior member of staff. Our entrance examination takes place in January. The examination consists of papers in Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning, and is designed to gauge the girls’ intellectual potential, not to test what they have learnt at their junior school. We do not issue past papers, but the Mathematics syllabus is enclosed with the prospectus. The English paper has a comprehension exercise and an essay.
Sixth Form Entry
Admission to the Sixth Form usually depends on the entrance examination, GCSE results, a reference from the previous school and an interview. Candidates should be registered by 31 October in the year preceding entry. The examination is held in the Autumn. Academic Scholarships and James Allen's Bursaries may be available on entry to the Sixth Form, as well as at 11+. There are also Sixth Form Art and Music Scholarships. We have now closed our list for the Sixth Form intake in September 2010.
Entry to Other Years
Occasional vacancies may occur at other stages: please contact our Registrar for details of any places and examination arrangements. Candidates for entry in Years 9 and 10 also sit a modern language paper.
Policies
Please note that all our policies, including complaints, are on this website under "School Policies".
